Feel the Difference with Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a natural mineral and the most effective agent available that helps to prevent tooth decay. The mineral is naturally present in different amounts in almost all foods and water supplies. The benefits of fluoride have been well known for over 50 years and are documented in many scientific journals and research papers.

How Fluoride Works:

Fluoride works by restoring mineral to the surfaces of your teeth where bacteria’s by- product may have eroded the enamel. This mineral helps strengthen the enamel and prevent cavities.

Types Of Fluoride

There are two types of fluoride that are available: topical and systemic. Topical fluoride is present in many dental products including: toothpaste, mouth wash and gels. This form of fluoride is ideal for children as it seeps into the outer surface of tooth enamel. As children’s teeth are vulnerable to decay, topical fluoride helps strengthen enamel, helping to prevent the breakdown of the enamel.

Systemic fluoride much like topical fluoride helps to strengthen the enamel as well any teeth that are developing underneath the gums. This form of fluoride is found in most foods we eat as well as our water supply and can be taken in supplement form if you are deficient in certain minerals.

Why Get Fluoride Treatment?

Eating a balanced diet is essential to ensuring your body gets an adequate amount of fluoride each day. However, it is not always possible to do so, which is why 6 monthly fluoride treatment is available here at Prodental. Patients that will benefit from this treatment include:

  • Patients that eat too much sugar or have a carbohydrate-heavy diet
